To say that Everything, Now! has been playing their exuberant blend of power pop and psych leaning indie rock for more than two decades is to voice an inherent contradiction, rooted in fact but a bit misleading on the surface.

True, the project was founded by Jon Rogers (vocals/guitar) after he moved to Indiana from Athens, GA, in late 2002, finding a fittingly offbeat home in Muncie, IN’s wild and wooly underground music scene, before relocating to Indianapolis in 2007. And yes, in their formative years, the constantly-shifting E,N! lineups released six rambunctious rock albums; they embarked on cross-country tours by themselves and alongside Indianapolis luminaries Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s and Athens psych-poppers Casper and the Cookies; and they opened gigs for indie legends like Dr. Dog, Man Man, of Montreal, and Circulatory System, to name a few.

But then, around 2014, Everything, Now! went on an indefinite hiatus to pursue experimental side-projects, solo albums, and various career/family goals. When the 2020 pandemic mercilessly mangled the world into new definitions of normal, the aging members of Everything, Now!, feeling the relentless grind of time and loss, decided to revive the project for live shows in 2022, and quickly found themselves developing a batch of new songs that Rogers had penned in short bursts during the band’s years off.

These new songs would become the band’s seventh official album (not counting a few EPs and hordes of demos), HIDEOUT MOUNTAIN, for which the newly-solidified quintet of Rogers, Drew DeBoy (keys), Allen Bannister (guitar), John Muylle (bass/vocals), and Bryan Unruh (drums), assembled at Indianapolis studio Postal Recording in January 2023, joined by their longtime friend and collaborator Tyler Watkins (Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s) co-producing and mixing. The album was recorded in several sessions throughout the year, with an emphasis on fun and camaraderie among old friends, despite a handful of personal setbacks and losses that occurred during the months-long recording process.
